Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of Binance, is planning to fund over 30k scholarships for students interested in pursuing a career in Web3 in 2023. The Binance Charity Scholar Program (BCSP) will offer free Web3 education and training courses, eliminating financial barriers for tech-savvy students to enhance their skills. In a recent blog post, Binance Charity stated:
“We recognize that digital education and skills development can be out of reach for many, resulting in a blockchain industry that lacks diversity and talent. The Binance Scholar Program changes all that, covering the costs of tuition and course fees at some of the world’s leading universities, colleges and vocational training providers.”
The blog mentioned that the next BCSP cohort attracted a large number of applicants, with over 82,000 expressing interest. This equates to an acceptance rate of approximately 37%. The educational partners participating in this cohort include institutions such as University of Western Australia, University of Nicosia in Cyprus, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in Germany, and Nigerian-based technology hub Utiva.
Binance Charity has also formed alliances with several organizations to host some of BCSP’s events, including Simplon, a French-based tuition-free training center, Women In Tech, Kyiv IT Cluster, and Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation. The partnerships have been established to aid in the retraining of Ukrainians who may have lost their jobs as a result of the war with Russia.
The partnership with Women In Tech aims to provide training for around 3,000 women in rural South Africa and Brazil, in order to support future female entrepreneurs. Binance Academy, the company’s non-profit blockchain education portal, will also provide support to Binance Charity. In 2022, the charity was able to raise more than $3.5 million, primarily in the form of Binance USD (BUSD), which was used to fund over 290,000 hours of Web3 education and training courses.
Binance Charity Keen on Building An Inclusive Web3 World
According to Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity, the program has seen a surge in interest. The response to the Web3 education projects has been overwhelming, reflecting the high demand among people to learn about blockchain, De-Fi, NFTS, Coding and more. She also noted that they are seeing a diverse range of participants, including a substantial proportion of women. With many more education initiatives in the pipeline, they are more enthusiastic than ever to create a more inclusive Web3 world, she said.
