Fejiro Hanu, CEO of Nigerian crypto exchange Patricia, has dismissed rumors of its closure as a media strategy for more clicks. He confirmed that the exchange is still up and running despite the speculations.
Hanu explained in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that media outlets twisted facts and narratives to attract attention, focusing more on negative news than on positive updates about the exchange.
Patricia Exchange Challenges Since the Hack
Patricia faced scrutiny after a hacking incident in May 2023, resulting in a significant loss of customer funds. Since April 2023, users have struggled to access their funds, leading to concerns of a potential exit scam.
In response to customer concerns, Patricia converted customer assets into Patricia Tokens (PTK) in October 2023 to guarantee future repayment. The company aims to reimburse holders with 1 Tether token for each Patricia token.
Assurance and Updates from Hanu
Hanu assured users in a recent post that Nigerian security services are actively handling the case. Patricia awaits the prosecution and conviction of the suspects involved to resolve the situation.
In November 2023, politician Wilfred Bonse was arrested in connection with the Patricia crypto wallet heist. The Nigerian Police Force apprehended him for allegedly stealing over 200 million Nigerian naira ($246,153) from Patricia Technologies’ crypto wallet.
