Australia has reached a significant milestone in the cryptocurrency world, boasting over 1,000 active crypto-fiat ATMs. This places the country as the third-largest hub for such machines globally, following the United States and Canada.
Rise of Crypto ATMs in Australia
As of April 24, Australia is now home to 1,002 Bitcoin ATMs, marking a substantial growth in its crypto infrastructure. This surge in adoption reflects a shift in the Australian market, which was previously inactive in the realm of crypto ATMs.
Australia’s achievement comes after the United States and Canada, with the U.S. hosting the majority of global Bitcoin ATMs at 82.8%, totaling 31,170 machines. Canada follows with 7.8% of the global count, comprising 2,918 crypto ATMs.
The rapid expansion of crypto ATMs in Australia can be attributed to increased participation from private firms, fueling the nation’s growing interest in cryptocurrencies.
Surpassing Asia and Aiming for Europe
Australia’s Bitcoin ATM count surpassed that of Asia in April 2023, positioning the country as a significant player in the crypto ATM market. With the current installation rate, Australia is on track to surpass Europe, which currently holds 4.3% of all active Bitcoin ATMs.
Apart from Australia, several other countries boast a significant number of crypto ATMs, including Spain, El Salvador, Poland, Germany, and Hong Kong.
